Create iQ Social Monitors

An iQ Social Monitors is where you find both the aggregated and disaggregated data collected for analysis

Monitors are used to keep track of a certain topic (by keyword) or certain voices (by authors) on the public web.

Go to iQ Social > Login using your credentials > Listen > Monitors

  1. You will land on the Monitors’ main page. Here you will find all monitors previously created;

  2. You will see only active monitors, but, if you wish to see paused monitors, you must click on Active (green) in the top-left corner and choose Paused (red) or All;

  3. You will find Collections where monitors are grouped in themes or unsorted. There’s also a search option to look for specific monitors;

  4. When selecting a particular monitor, you will land on the mentions feed page for this monitor and the first dashboard’s buttons with the next characteristics:
    • Name of the monitor;
    • Date range: the default range is the last 24 hours;
    • Segments: such as Twitter mentions only;
    • Tags: to label mentions;
    • Sort: by most recent, reach, likes, shares or replies;
    • View in command center - display format good for presentations;
    • Related dashboards: that are connected to this monitor;
    • Additional settings: to show/hide media or vulgarity threshold;
    • Three dots where you can select to: pause, edit or delete your monitor. You can create alerts, do historical Jobs, create PDF or create Dashboard for that monitor.

  5. There are several things to take into account when defining word queries:
    • Separate concepts by using a comma. If words aren’t separated by a comma, iQ Social will look for them in that exact order as a phrase;
    • iQ Social distinguishes between word, #word, and @word to allow for finer control over search matches. If you want to match all 3 then you need to include all 3 in your monitor e.g. word,#word,@word;
    • Use quotation marks (“…”) to write words in Arabic in order for the software to recognize the language and avoid spacing issues;
    • Use Add Rule to have different rules within the same group.

  6. After defining the query, you should click on Preview. Doing so will show an approximate number of the posts that the monitor will pull in per month, and generate a sample of tweets;

  7. Once you agree with all rules created, you may click on Settings icon to choose the following (optional):

    • Topic Matching: you may choose between:

      • Ignore Shared Posts;

      • Only Track Verified Accounts;

      • Only Track Posts With Media;

      • Include Comments With Matching Posts.

    • Collections: you may choose between the collections;
    • Auto Pause: the monitor will auto-pause at a specific day & time or a specific number of mentions.
  8. When you’re satisfied with the monitor, click on Save. This will generate a pop-up window with a preview of the mentions per month. Click again on Save to finalize the creation of the monitor.

⚠️ If the domain or social network parameters are defined, the Preview function will not work because it only pulls in data from Twitter.

💡 It is important to use Preview after defining a query because it can help you refine it. For example, if you see tweets in the sample that are irrelevant to the context, you can find out what keywords those tweets include in order to exclude them.
